Without these protections, the public assumes the risk, the cost, and the consequences of a failure — while developers may meet minimal compliance and later exit the project.

Hazardous materials protections must apply as a condition of operating within the municipality, not merely as discretionary siting standards.

Despite the mayor's reassurances -- Forever chemicals are still an issue

 Data Centers actually DO use "Forever Chemicals" in two ways:.  Data Centers use PFOS in semiconductors in computer servers.  PFOS is also used in the cooling systems of large data centers that process AI.  NOTE:  This would include the Hyperscale Data Center has approached the city of Mason.  The City Council of Mason has passed the M3 zoning that will welcome the development with minimal restrictions.

The Mayor and 2 Mason City Council members went on a field trip to Ohio so  see what it could look like if one comes here!  The Mayor calls New Albany "the model he borrowed things from for Mason's M3 ordinance.."   The Community deserves to have a peek as well -- This recorded helicopter ride will let you see what the Mayor & council want to model Mason's Data Center after. Ben Green was called to testify at the House Committee 2/15.  During Green's testimony, he  shared concerns for cities housing data centers.  

As a professor at U of M, Ben Green  holds a PhD in applied mathematics, with a secondary field in science, technology, and society, from Harvard University.
